Auguste Sebaste II

Character name: Auguste Sebaste II
Character background: Not a local in Santhrim, Sebaste is the prodigal son of a foreign noble house, banished from his home and cast into the world (whereupon he wound up in Santhrim).
Character personality: Having originally been brought up with a silver spoon in hand, he has since (and is still) discovering the value of hard work and modesty. Still occasionally quick to retort, Sebaste is quick to snatch up an opportunity and is always seeking means by which he might qualify himself amongst his now lost House. While good-natured at his core, he is stubborn in his beliefs and his values, and loyal nearly to a fault.
Character goals: Caught up in the congestion of Santhrim, far from the lackadaisical estate he grew up on, he now seeks to validate himself as a Sebaste, regardless of if the name has any meaning in his new home. He seeks to prosper, in both riches and grandiose architecture that might seal his name in the annals of Santhrim and New Santhrim's history.
Motivation for coming to New Santhrim: Quite by chance he heard of the move to push the frontier, and immediately visions of success and flourishing invaded his mind. A blank slate to begin on, how better could he show his worth?
Write a short scene from a roleplay encounter: Sebaste slid down the gravel lining the floor of the cave, unsettled at the thought of creeping monsters in the dark. There were no monsters in New Santhrim. There were no monsters in Sebaste -- at least none that he could recall. He might liken his family to some sort of horrible beasts, but that would have to wait until later. No time to dwell on things past while slipping into the dark maw of the earth.
Sebaste fumbled in his coat for one of the torches provided him and lit it, peering down the dark hallways -- they certainly seemed like hallways -- looking for the telltale golden glitter of value. The people in the settlement had suggested mining for rare ore; they said there was much of it to be found in the East. They even provided him with a pickax to do it -- perhaps laughing at the prospect of a man with gloves and a mustache like his slaving away in the mines -- but they did not provide him with a more suitable weapon. This was unfortunate. From the dark beyond the torch's flicker came a sound, like water hitting a hot pan: "Sssssssssssssss..."

I like this. And the character dilemma between working class and upper class will make some interesting dilemmas for you in the story to come, as that is the essence of the story. Which side will you be on?
